TYPE: Costa Rica. Tablazo, blühend im Jahre 1921, C. Wercklé 111 (holotype, B, destroyed; isotype selected by Pupulin (2010) as the lectotype, AMES).

Epidendrum sanchoi var. exasperatum Ames & C. Schweinf., Schedul. Orch. 10: 72-73. 1930.

TYPE: Costa Rica. Heredia: Cerro de las Lajas, north of San Isidro, 7 Mar 1926, alt 2000-2400 m, P.C. Standley & J. Valerio 51488 (holotype, AMES).
